Fire in the Kitchen
In the kitchen, the stove is set deep in the wall and actually feeds its
heat to the white stove in the next room. Out of the wall comes a large
stone rectangle, two feet tall. Smaller fires burn on the platform. A fry
pan sits on a tripod, with a kettle hanging from a black chain off the wooden
post supporting the structure. Along the wall stand large heavy wooden bowls,
one foot in diameter. Among the cooking tools were two rolling pins and
a wurst-presse. Against one wall leans a huge metal cauldron. Shelves on
the wall have dowels to keep the items in. A wooden cupboard stands about
five feet high. A low square table with two chairs and benches along the
wall rests in one corner. Pans hang above on a single metal rod. Built-in
shelves hold pottery dishes. |
