Context of another color
From the beginning of discussions about learning objects we have heard about the challenges of context and this is still a persistent and nagging problem. A recent NSDL workshop on interoperability sponsored by reusability.org (http://www.reusablelearning.org/index.asp?id=39) presented guidelines to address context within the challenge of reusability. Yet the recommendation was, in brief, to make content context free. If we have to do this (which I am not sure we do) then we need wrap-around or filtering objectives, tools, or functions that allow users to have context. Learning learning and pedagogical theory and even brain theory stresses the need for the learning to have context. I would like to see some examples of objects that address this, without producing the same content through mutliple objects, not much ROI on that!
